Paintings
Statement
My work reflects my travels; my life along an arroyo in New Mexico; and my interest in color, light and pattern and the way they are boldly used throughout the world. My paintings reflect my appreciation for art forms that were, until recently, traditionally women's crafts: quilting, applique, molas and weaving of rugs and tapestries.
In Turkey, I visited the studio of a carpet designer - the expert in her country on symbolism in ancient carpets. She had traditional weavers weave her contemporary designs. Ancient carpets tell stories from the weavers mind, hopes and dreams. I paint tapestries that tell stories. I weave imagery from my life experiences and thoughts into patterns of color to create surreal painted tapestries of my own.
